Ok, I meant to do this all last week, but obviously it didn't happen. So the week of April 13 turned into a pretty interesting training week. I got in the required 24 miles, but how I got there in the middle is in the story.
Well, Tuesday is my hard workout day, and the tempos/speedworks are getting long enough that there is no way for me to finish them during my lunch break. Plus it has been getting warmer out, so I decided to go back to my early morning routine. This put Monday's easy 3 on an early morning schedule. Except I didn't do it. I think it was due to rain. Yes, my excuses were getting pretty lame. Well, it was still running at lunch, so I decided to run inside the factory. Yes, I remember what happened the last time I tried this. It turned out that I think my shorter mileage actually helped me avoid serious foot problems. But being a short track (6 laps to the mile), I ran it kind of fast. Almost like a tempo run without the warm up and cool down.
Distance: 3.00 miles; Time: 24:12; Pace: 8:04!!!
Tuesday's workout was a scheduled speedwork with a total mileage of 8 miles and 4x1600 sandwiched in there. Since the weather was soggy, I woke up early and went out to the gym to run on the treadmill. Yes, that was so successful the last time. Well, it was similar this day. I warmed up a mile and then sped along for the 1st mile at a treadmill fixed pace of 7:19. After jogging for half a mile, I did the second. After that run .... I was out of gas! I tried to calm myself down, but I had no desire to keep going at that pace. I ended up finishing with a finish mile for a total of only 5 miles that morning. I was quite disappointed in myself. I thought about it during the day, and I decided that besides being very early in the morning, I had no fuel on board! Yes, I was literally running on empty. Well, after deciding to counter that next week, I ran some make up miles that evening. It was a disappointing day, but I had the mileage.
Speedwork distance: 5.00 miles; Total time: 45:26; Fastest pace: 7:19
Make-up distance: 3.21 miles; Time: 28:27; Pace: 8:52
Thursday's runs have turned into running with Travis day. It is nice being able to run with someone else. Even if his pace is a little fast. In the end, it evened out. The day was sunny and 55 degrees with winds from NE at 7 mph.
Distance: 3.01 miles; Time: 26:22; Pace: 8:46
Saturday was another 10 mile long run. Another busy day ahead, so it's another 6:30am Saturday morning. Last week, I was farther along before the sun rose, but it was still a stunning view. I feel pretty good about myself when I survive these long runs. I have no doubts about the final 5k after running the first 10 miles. Oh, looks like I recorded no weather on this date! I remember that it was nice out. I may have had on a long sleeve shirt, but I was wearing shorts.
Distance: 10.64 miles; Time: 1:33:07; Pace: 8:44
