5 weeks left; 24.5 miles!

Monday morning woke up early to run before breakfast. After walking the dog, I ran 3 miles easy. It reminded me of my training last year, running around the neighborhood while it was still dark out. Nothing too exciting, but a good workout. It was 35 degrees out with wind from the east at 9 MPH.

Distance: 3.13 miles; Time: 27:32; Pace: 8:48

Tuesday woke up early again. After last week's hard workout during lunch, I decided to do my hard workouts before breakfast so that I could shower and not worry about taking up too much time at work. Today was a 4 mile tempo run. After a warm up run of 1.34 miles, ran the tempo aiming for a 7:57 pace. After turning around at 2 miles, I felt the workout starting to get to me. It seems that when I get into a really hard part of my runs I start quoting to myself 2 Timothy 2:3 which talks about enduring hardness as a good soldier of Christ. It helps me keep going. I could definitely tell in one direction that the wind was in my face. The temperature was 38 degrees with wind ESE at 14 MPH. Yeah, that added some resistance!

Total distance: 6.75 miles; Tempo distance: 4.06 miles; Time: 32:16; Pace: 7:56

Thursday, I ran an easy 3 miles during lunch with Travis from work. Ok, well it wasn't as easy as it could have been. Travis is getting back into running although he hasn't been running very fast. So he was looking forward to running faster with me. My easy runs are supposed to be at a 9:22 pace, even though I do good enough to slow down to around 9:00. Travis started out pretty ambitious, and even though we walked for about 100 yards after 2 miles, we still averaged a pace of 8:31! The temperature was 44 degrees and we ran through a very light rain shower with a recorded NE wind of 11 MPH.

Distance: 2.94 miles (just shy of 3!); Time: 25:07; Pace: 8:31

Saturday was long run day. I woke up earlier this week than last, although I already read that Brady had run before me. Well, I was still up earlier than everyone else in the house. Of course, I had to warm up by running the dog. Sometimes he walks more than he runs, but today wasn't one of those times. Even with his "potty breaks" Charlie ran with me a distance of 2.61 miles in 30 minutes for a pace of 11:30. That's a pretty easy run pace, but it was enough of a running pace that I counted it in my running miles for the week. After getting back home and changing the batteries in my GPS, I took off for my 9 mile run. This time I ran a little bit of a different track instead of all the way into town on Main Street. It added a little bit of variety for me to catch the bike trail at Trade Square by Hobart. Then running the trail by the river at the Treasure Island area is pretty nice. I got a nice view of the Adams Street bridge and once again thought of how we want to take a picture of it before they rebuild it next year. I know that a lot of people enjoy running on trails, and I'm sure that I would too, but Troy is such a neat town to explore on foot. I enjoy running it, especially if it is relatively early before everyone is out on the road. The temperature was about 42 to 45 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and winds from NE at 7 MPH. I probably could have skipped wearing the long sleeve shirt, but I'm glad I thought about wearing shorts.

Distance: 9.14 miles; Time: 1:22:57; Pace: 9:04

It always feels good to run. I definitely enjoy it. This made my fourth week this year to run over 20 miles in a week. And I was able to make my 100 miles for the month with a couple more days left. Only about a month left before the half marathon ... I'll just keep plodding on til then .....
