17 mile run week; next race is next week

Well, next Thursday is the next race: the infamous Turkey Trot, a 5 miler. Yeah, should be fun. Actually, I really need to get shoes beofre then. Maybe tomorrow? Hopefully.

Anyway, this week's training. Tuesday was the 3 mile easy run. A little cool out at 47 degrees with a 10 mph wind from the northeast. It was the typical lunch run from work out to Kyle Park and back by the bike path. I kept it easy even though the pace was faster than the planned 9:27.

Distance - 3.03 mi; Time - 27:02; Pace - 8:55

Thursday was the hard day again. Planned was a 4 mile tempo with warm up and cool down. It was another cool, cloudy day at 47 degrees with a 12 mph wind from the south west. The route was my modified standard: out to Kyle Park with a lap around the softball fields. Back on the bike path to finish the 4 miles a mile from the Aquatic Park. The extra mile gets a bit estimated, but it worked out. Another hard workout, but I think the cool weather helped me run faster.

Total Distance - 5.29 mi
Tempo Distance - 4.14 mi; Time - 32:08; Pace - 7:46

Saturday long run. Today was my longest run since I ran the half marathon in May. It was definitely an endurance run. After running it the temperature was 53 degrees with a 2 mph north north east wind. It was quite fair and clear skies. I started out running the long run to downtown route. Getting downtown, I ran back up McKaig for a different way back. By the time I got to Speedway (or actually KFC) it was just over 8 miles. The walk back definitely got cool.

Distance - 8.44 mi; Time - 1:18:03; Pace - 9:14

Good week of running. Need new shoes. Next week should be fun. Late now; time for bed.
