Original plan: long run, about 7 miles, on Saturday, May 31
What actually happened: "long" run, 4 miles, on Sunday, June 1
My MapMyRun goal for the month of May was 100 miles. By Thursday, May 29, I had gone about 60 miles. Sorry, but I'm not going to make 40 miles in 2 days. So I decided to skip the long run on Saturday and push it to Sunday ... and hopefully add it into June's 100 mile goal!
Now it is Sunday afternoon. We go to Duke Park which has a fairly nice asphalt paved path around the park that ends up as 2 miles long. If I run around it 3 times, that'll be 6 miles. Besides, I'm going to run it easy, right? And next week I run 10k anyway, so I'd better be able to survive it! Well, about halfway into my first time around, I'm feeling how hot it is out. Wow! I'm used to running pretty darn early in the mornings! This heat is something else! Guess it is near 80 degrees out.
So I end up doing 2 laps. 18:11 for the first lap of 2 miles and 18:54 for the second. If I can just keep that up for 2 more miles, I'll make my 10k in just at (or hopefully under) an hour. Just remember, it's your first one. Don't sweat it about your time. Don't forget, you're 39!
On the plus side, a bit of time running at Duke Park on the weekend followed by a dip in the city pool ... it's all good! That was definitely a good combo!
