Saturday turned out to be a very good day. The weather was perfect: overcast, coolish, but no rain. After picking up my stuff, I warmed up by running about 1.3 miles total. Some of it was walking back to the car, and some of it was genuine warm up movement. I lumped it all together for simplicity. Then the race. I started out in front of all the other AO Smith-ers. I concentrated on keeping my pace even. There's got to be a more automatic way on my watch. I just kept looking at it and trying to adjust. I'll have to read the instructions for the "alarms." Anyway, ran the first mile in 7:24, got to the second mile in 14:44. The hill turned out to be no problem for me. It was neat knowing a bunch of the others in the race. I waved at them all after turning around and starting back for the finish. After my "sprint" to the finish, my watch read 22:54, right at my Vandalia PR! It was exciting. I definitely finished first among the AO Smith-ers. But ultimately, I didn't receive an age group prize! Not sure yet how close I came; hopefully the results we be posted sometime soon.
After the "successful" weekend, I woke up Monday morning and couldn't get myself out of bed. So I stayed. Thought that I'd get to it on Tuesday. Monday night started really feeling blah. Not sure how the morning would go. This morning wasn't all that great. Pretty much forced myself to go because I am so close to hitting 100 miles this month. Ran Charlie a lot more than I usually run him. He did a lot better than I thought he would. I've been telling everyone that his little legs are good for half a mile, but he did more like a mile and a half before walking! Of course, he had many pee breaks. After running him, I went back out for my own run. Determined just how far I had to go to have enough miles that a 2mile walk at work would break the 100 mile barrier. Ran 2.49 miles in 24:13 for a blazingly slow pace of 9:44. Wow, I was dragging!
Still not feeling so well. I'll drown my sorrows in water. Maybe even take some Tylenol. Kind of scary how my body is feeling somewhat achy. I'll just kind of take it easier this week. Not much motivation with the lack of races in my future. That's ok. I've still got the mileage to motivate me. I'll just keep plodding on ......
