Oh, an update on the breathing problems earlier this week. I asked my dad (yes, imagine coming up with that stroke of genius!) and he asked if I was taking any decongestants. He recommended Allegra-D, which I had just seen in my pill basket. Well, it was a dramatic difference. Now I'm wondering how long I need to take it, because I may be on my last one!
Ahh, the tempo run. Described as the "comfortably hard" pace. But is the word "comfortably" pronounced with 3 syllables or 4? After this morning, does it really matter? Because all I felt was the hard part. Ok, I remember that I'm not going to go on complaining about how hard my workouts are. But this one really was! I don't know if it had to do with the fact that it was a 4 mile tempo instead of the usual 3 miler. Or maybe some other thing was going on making me paranoid about making the goal pace of 7:56. You know, I am really lousy at "feeling" the pace thing. I would look at my watch and see that I was falling behind in pace so I would step it up. And as I was stepping it up, I was trying to maintain that pace. Usually (and especially after mile 3) it was a really hard feeling pace! In the end, I ran 4.12 miles in 31:18 for a pace of 7:35. Apparently all of my recent tempo paces have ended up just above 7:30 pace.
Well, I bypassed the 100 mile mark for the month with one day left. And I have an easy 2 mile run tomorrow, so I'll be almost up to 110 miles for this month! That'll be good, because to even have a hope of making 1000 miles this year, I need to start making up more than 100 miles per month. Of course, this will only be my second hundred mile month ever! I'll try to make up more miles by adding more walking. I'm also somewhat concerned (only somewhat) that I don't have a good "cross-training" program going on during my off running days. I'll have to figure that out over the course of the next month.
Still plodding on .....
