Well, the recent results of my fast 5K are really biting me back! I've come up with a calculated training program to continue training throughout the next couple of months leading up to the Oktoberfest 10K on October 5. And for today's speedwork, I was to run 3x 800's in 3:31 each. Well, let's start with this first .... I obviously cannot count, as I ended up running only 4.41 miles total instead of the 5 miles as goal. Assuming that 800 meters is about 1/2 mile, the 3x 800 with 400 jogs totals to 2 miles, meaning my warm up and cool down better add up to 3 miles. I only did about 1.125 on each, so I'm just over 1/2 mile short.
Next, my 800 meters is more of 0.54 mile, since I am running around the block instead of on a track. So my distances were 869 meters each. At 3:34, 3:38, & 3:41 each I guess I actually met the goal times! But I did get slower with each successive run. Did I mention that this was HARD? I know that I'm insane for getting up so early in the mornings to run, but running this hard at the insanely early hour is just ... beyond!
So I guess I did ok. It would be nice to have access to a track, but I have no idea. I guess there are 4 weeks before I have to do this again. Of course, the next time it will be 4x instead of just 3x! Oh, I hope this doesn't kill me! I think I'm looking forward to an easy long run .... Hopefully I'll be able to get it in on Saturday.
