race results and moving on

Well, obviously weekends are a bad time for me to post anything. So it's been 4 days since the Vandalia Freedom Run, and the Jamoras did well! Glynis was able to beat her goal time of 42 minutes, thanks to Katie keeping her company the whole way. Her final time was 41:37! The only issue was that before she finished she got the feeling that someone hit her in the head with a hammer, and that migraine seems to still be with her! She's got an appointment tomorrow, so hopefully we can get that taken care of.

For me, my goal was to break 25 minutes. It was definitely cooler and almost misty/rainy that morning. And in the end I broke 23 minutes! My final time was 22:50. I guess that everything just came together perfectly for it. I felt pretty good afterward, although I'm wondering if I would have been able to push it any more there at the end. Maybe I could have pushed it more throughout. Well, whatever. Needless to say, it was very good feeling.

And now for moving on ... what next? There are some 5k's on the horizon in the end of September. And there is this really big 10k the first weekend of October. I kind of have my eyes on that one, the Oktoberfest Classic 10K in Minster, Ohio. So I've come up with a planned training schedule based on my 5k time, and it looks kind of intimidating. But I guess it is building on what I have done, so maybe it won't be so bad. At least this time it is spread out over 13 weeks instead of just 4 or 8. We'll have to see how faithful I can stay to the training regimen. And if I find the time to actually plan the race. I already ran 3 miles this morning at a pace of 8:18, so I guess the recommended 9:22 doesn't seem all that bad. The tempo runs and speedwork runs are going to be interesting.

Talked with Tony about his experience running the Baghdad version of the Peachtree Road Race. Not a bad time of 47:43 for him. Definitely sets a bar for my future 10K races. We also talked about the possibility of signing up for the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon for next May. That will be a big step for me. Of course, it will be cooler than cool to run on the famous Speedway. I wonder if they'll let us kiss the bricks? I guess we'll talk about that possibility when he comes home for a visit next month. Geez, I definitely have the running bug now!
