4 mile run and a new runner in the family?

First things first. Ran 4.09 miles in 35:53 for a pace of 8:46. Decent run. Made me kind of wonder how I make it on other runs, just because of how sweaty I got and moments of how I felt during the run. But I could tell it was an easy one because at the end, that's how it felt. It is nice to know that I can run harder or longer when necessary.

Ok, the news. Monday was Katie's first day at cross country, and then later at volleyball. Now she is facing a choice that will be made for her (in a way) tomorrow. That is when the volleyball team gets chosen. I can see her getting chosen for volleyball because even though she hasn't played it much (or at all) before, she sounds like she is catching on quickly and she will be able to be a good player. But then again, it would be so neat if she were to turn into a runner through her high school years! She actually likes running! That's a good sign. Of course, with volleyball she will do a lot of running, mainly sprints and stuff. But the long distance stuff will still be there for endurance. But I have learned so much about running lately that it would be neat to see her pursue that from the start. And like her mom says, the meets are all on the weekends so that she would be able to go to all of them; as opposed to volleyball games during the week and about half of them as away games. It is just neat the way she gets into athletic pursuits, especially after just coming off a rather "relaxed" summer break. Too bad we didn't know about the running schedule that she had for the last month and half! Maybe she wouldn't be nearly so sore right now!

And looking forward to this weekend to see my brother and run a 4 miler with him. I think it is a sure thing that we will sign up for the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. I know that Sean has run it several times, and I can understand him being "bored" with it. But it is new to us, so that's what we will pursue. Plus a chance for Tony and me to bond some. We'll just keep plodding on ....
