Well, Saturday was interesting. First of all, I had an appointment for the car to get serviced that was right in the middle of when I would normally run. Plus it was promising to be warmer than it has been lately, so a late day run would be ... warmer than they have been lately! Cool thing about the car appointment: I brought my bike. Rode up to the post office and along the bike trail for a while. Then over to Walmart to get some sunglasses. Then back over to the library. Finally back to the service place. By the time I finally got home, I ended up going out for lunch with Glynis and Katie.
The afternoon went on. Did some errands. Just really avoided running my long run. But I knew it was coming. Finally decided that I would modify my proposed path and end up around the pool so that I could participate in the Girl Scouts family swim event, because that's where Glynis and Katie would be. And I figured a dip in the pool would feel pretty good after running 8 miles! So I ran into town on the "other side" of the road. I tried pretty hard to keep my pace under control. Made it down to the square at just under 4 miles. Zagged out across the river, then ran down river a while and turned back around on the bike path. This morning there were other people here riding bikes and all. Now there was nobody. It was hot to me. But I was only about halfway done! Followed the trail to the end of the city park and then kept going on to Duke park. Got there and did the 2 mile loop around the park. Finally finished up with 8.04 miles in 1:13:47 for a pace of 9:10. I know that I ran the first 4 miles at a faster pace, but I also know that the last 2 were quite a bit slower. My feet really hurt after that run. After that, I did a 1 mile walk to the pool. Note: at the pool, my Teva sandals felt quite good on my tired feet!
This morning (Monday) walked Charlie and did a 3 mile easy run. The Charlie walk actually put me at my 100 mile mark for this month. Now the rest of the week will be additional mileage. Speaking of miles, last week I hit 20 miles for running (yay) and once again hit 32 miles total. That's now 2 weeks in a row and 3 weeks total of getting over 30 miles in a week. If I can keep that up, I should have no problems hitting 1000 miles this year!
Oh, today's 3 miler: 3.20 miles in 27:34 for a pace of 8:37. And in case I want to kind of track how long my gps batteries last, I just changed to a new battery before this three miler.
Glynis was asking why I didn't sign up for any of the Air Force marathon events. I think I'll probably sign up for something next year, maybe the half marathon or 10K. I thought about it some after she asked me, that even though her dad originally served in the US Army Air Corps, he did get his final discharge from the US Air Force. Yeah, and this marathon does commemorate the founding of the Air Force as it's own branch of the military. Maybe in the grand scheme of things I'll try to make this one my first marathon. I'll have to see if I think I'll be ready for that next year. Someday, I'm sure. Until then ... keep plodding on ....
