Wow, last week. Well, on Saturday I ran 8 miles for the first time in my life. Here are the stats: 8.15 miles in 1:07:42 for a pace of 8:18. Yes, the goal pace was 9:16. I started out going quite a bit faster than that, and I actually averaged almost 7:30 for the first 3 miles. By the time I hit 6 miles, I was obviously slower. But in the end it all worked out. I guess that might mean that I should be pretty good to go for my next 5K. I went ahead and registered for the Piqua Heritage Festival on August 30, just 2 weeks away. I'm not too worried about that one. It's the Tipp City one where I'm gonna try harder for a better finish. I think this one in Piqua will be kind of a "test" for me, just to see how far I've come in the past month and a half. This is definitely the most regularly I have run for a long time, and it really helps that I have the current plan.
This morning ran an easy 3 miler, actually 3.16 miles in 28:09 for a pace of 8:53. A couple of times I was kind of worried about my pace getting too slow, but obviously I made it up. I'm still really bad at this pace thing. Without my watch, I really don't think that I could do it. But I think that I could keep up with whoever I need to keep pace with in a race.
And each week my mileage just keeps creeping up. It is tough sometimes because it seems as if it is going way too slowly. But they say that is the way to do it in order to avoid injury. And that's not what I need right now. But my overall mileage (walking and running) was up to 32 last week, like what it was a couple of weeks ago. That definitely should help me reach my 1000 mile goal for the year. Till then I'll just keep plodding on ......
