catching up on weekend and new week

Saturday was another 7 mile long run. Total mileage came out to 7.23 miles in 1:02:49 for a pace of 8:40. Ok, I messed up the start a bit by not starting a new lap on my watch after walking the dog and starting my run. But I was able to guess the time to the minute and I went ahead and guessed the mileage based on the "fixed" distance from my house to the 2 mile turn around. This run was a pretty good representation of the upcoming Oktoberfest 10K, since I started at 9:20am. The race starts at 9:30am. It was a pretty nice morning. Not too warm. Last year during the Oktoberfest 10K, it was very warm October day. That was the same day that the Chicago Marathon all but melted down. Well, Saturdays around here are pretty good for starting my long runs around 8 or 9.

This morning starts a new week of transition. I ran a total of 19.31 miles last week, and this week is scheduled for only 3 runs of 4 miles each. Then the next week things kick up a notch with speedwork in the middle of the week and a long run of 8 miles on Saturday. That'll be a totally new thing for me. Anyway, today I ran 4.06 miles in 35:51 for a pace of 8:49. The goal pace for easy runs has bumped up from 9:22 to 9:16. I hope it isn't too detrimental that I'm not quite going slow enough for the easy runs. Oh, and this weekend we'll be making plans with my brother for next year's 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. Sounds like fun, huh?

Til then, still plodding on ....
