Well, yesterday was pretty busy for me. But even before all that, I looked at the plan for running and thought "why am I going to run a 5 mile tempo?" That total of 7 miles makes my long runs look short! Plus, yesterday was the first day of school for the kids, so trying to walk the dog and then get in 7 miles followed by shower before starting the wake the kids at 5:30 am puts me wondering if there is time to sleep the night before! So on paper, I cut it down to a 4 mile tempo, and then in reality I cut it down to a 3 mile tempo. Besides, Saturday is a 5k race, right? Why kill myself before that?
So actuality for yesterday: 1.34 mile warmup in 12:08, 3.16 mile tempo in 23:46 for a pace of 7:30 (a pretty healthy pace for me), and then looking at the time and cutting my cooldown to 0.91 mile in 8:09.
Then today, run 3.14 miles in 28:12 for a pace of 8:58. Not bad as a last easy run before Saturday morning. Hopefully I can get in 2 miles for my warmup before the race. And I'll see if I can fit in 2 miles after the race. That equals it out to almost a 7 mile long run. I'll have to see how I'm feeling if I can squeeze in 2 more miles before the end of the day to get up to 20 miles for the week. I'm not even sure how hard I'll try for the 5K.
And hopefully this isn't a bad sign: yesterday I was about as tired as I've ever been. It is just so hard to try to catch up with sleep between running goals and getting the kids up and off to school and even just getting myself to work! Yes, I do have to do that. But tomorrow, I'll skip the whole walking thing to sleep in until 5, and Saturday I don't have to get going until maybe 6? And this is a holiday weekend! I can run in the sun on Monday! Which translates to "sleep in!"
Well, the next update will be post 5K. We will just have to see how much more I continue to plod! ....
