Last night I did something a little different. Instead of running yesterday morning, I ran last night. It was warm. It was almost 9pm, so the sun was going down. It was 79 degrees out with wind from WSW at 6 mph.
I had not run since last Wednesday's race. The thing is that Thursday morning I got up and I could NOT walk on my left foot! OMG, it was weird and scary! It hurt so much to put my weight on my left foot. As the morning went on, I eventually could LIMP on my left foot. As the day went on, it felt better. Later that morning at work, I talked with one of my running buddies (the marathon guy), and he mentioned plantar fasciitis! Oh no! So I looked it up and learned some things about it. The thing is the only real cure he was aware of was rest. For 6 months! But he wasn't doing that this fall. So I wasn't sure what I was going to do. That's why I didn't do a long run on Saturday.
But I decided to try it on Monday. Instead of the 3 miles on my training schedule, I did 2. Ok, a little more than 2. I ran relatively easy. I tried to shorten my stride quite a bit and concentrate on faster foot turnover. At the end, I picked up the pace and almost sprinted over the finish. I felt pretty good. Last night, I may have "cheated" by taking 800mg of ibuprofen. I was able to walk this morning. We'll see how things go tomorrow after my 5 miles with a 3 mile tempo!
Distance - 2.31 mi; Time - 20:35; Pace - 8:55
