First of all, I am proud of myself for "shutting down" on schedule last night! I think I got 6 hours of sleep! If not, it was just under, so it was close. Yeah, the things we get excited over ....
Secondly, I had some interesting meals in the last 24 hours. For lunch yesterday, I packed a combo of crockpot chicken breast in cheese and chicken broth soup mixed with some left over mac n cheese! It actually tasted pretty good, although it was a pretty heavily packed container. Obviously I'm not trying to lose any weight! Just before the end of the day I ate an orange for my snack. Then that evening for supper I had a combo of the same crockpot chicken listed above with some strips of lasagna noodles. What can I say? I try to help out by cleaning out the fridge! This morning for breakfast, I had a piece of leftover cheese pizza (cold) and some left over pancakes. They were pretty good. And for a morning snack I had almost a full handful of almonds.
Well today it was snowing pretty steadily since before I left for work this morning. By lunch it was still snowing. I could have easily opted to run inside, but my curiosity could not be squelched. I had to know what it was like to run in the snow. The temperature wasn't bad at 25 degrees. The wind was 10 MPH from ESE; not the best of circumstances, but not the worst. So I gave it a try.
The run was definitely an adventure. First of all, it was quite slippery on the road. I slowed down and paid close attention to where I put my feet for each step. Secondly, the constant falling snow was almost as bad as a steady rain. I got wet. At first it was bothersome falling into my face as I ran. But I got used to it and was able to keep on going. Thirdly, the whole feel of unstable footing beneath and the variety of either running almost in the middle of the road for a semi-plowed surface or moving off to the side of the road into 2" - 3" deep snow to avoid an oncoming car ... it made for a very tiring run! I felt like I was on edge for most of the run. It took a lot of concentration. I ended up only running 2.5 miles instead of the full 3. But I guess I can say that I did it! I don't know if I will do it again (and if I do, I'll be sure to blame that crazy groundhog!) but I did do it, and it was definitely an experience.
