2/27 - 8 Mile Long Run in the Evening

First of all, I was wondering how I'd do at running 8 miles without running longer than 6 miles a month ago. Then I was wondering when I'd be able to do the run with the day we had planned. Well, part of the plans changed with the snow from last night, but we were still pretty busy until the evening. It wasn't bad though. I went on a long overdue date with my wife! Anyway it was a good day, and we got ready for Michael's birthday party. So just before everyone arrived, I got ready and left at about 5:30. It was cloudy and 30 degrees with west winds at 13 mph. I was wondering how much longer the daylight would last.

I ran my old 4 mile out and back by way of the industrial park. Since my plan was to run that 4 miles and then the 3 mile loop around the neighborhood, I added a couple of explorations down streets. As usual, I got warm enough to take off my hat and gloves. But turning back into the wind was actually quite cold. I ended up running with my hat on, but without the gloves. Back in the neighborhood, there was a lot more slushy areas. In fact, in one cul-de-sac I slipped a little bit as I ran aroun it. Fortunately I stayed in control enough to keep from falling. Overall it was a good run. It was dark when I finished, but I had a blinking safety light. I was definitely ready to stop when I reached the 8 miles. I should sleep well tonight. After the party is over, of course.

Total Distance - 8.15 mi; Time - 1:16:04; Pace - 9:20
