Starting off with the fuel and rest portion: Sunday night was a carry-in at church. And our church is a good old Baptist church, where the members like to eat. What can I say? We enjoy food! And as Tim McD said, that's why he runs so he can eat. Well, I can eat too. And I know I ate more than my share. Let's see what I can remember: there was the pork sandwich, the cabbage roll, some taco salad, some kind of potato/sausage thing, and the various desserts. And as the family goat, I really ought to know that I don't need to specifically choose any desserts, because I get what is left over from Katie or Glynis. But I did get some, so I had extra to eat. Yes, and typing all of this out is making me all full again! At least after church the kids wanted to be with the teens for their activity, so Glynis and I were able to hit the gym for about 45 minutes. Except that I was still burping up dinner.
For the rest, I once again didn't get much. I don't remember exactly, but it may have been about 4 1/2 to 5 hours of sleep. I just don't get much time to sleep. I am so slow in the mornings that if I get up late, I make everyone else late. Of course, thinking about it, I got ready really quick this morning, so maybe my thinking process is flawed. Heck, there's probably a really good chance of that!
For the rest of my fuel, I had a breakfast of grapefruit and the modified superbowl of oatmeal. The superbowl includes an egg, extra 1/2 cup of oatmeal, ground flax seed, whey protein powder, and sliced almonds, all topped by yogurt. It is definitely more filling than a standard bowl of oatmeal. Then a bit of a snack on tortilla chips. Yup, I'm out of healthy snacks. I need to remember some for the next trip to the groceries.
And finally, the run. It was actually quite good. The day was warmer than what it had been all weekend; even if it was still a little chilly, it felt good. There was just enough brightness out to justify wearing shades, and somehow the sunlight helps it feel warmer even if the air temperature isn't really warmer. The measured temperature was 27 degrees with winds from the south at 7 MPH. I ran by myself to Kyle Park, and the start toward the south felt a bit cool with the breeze in my face. But by the time I got to the park past the mile mark, I was pretty warmed up. In fact, before turning around to come back, I took off my gloves.
I ran on up the bike path to see where the path ended at the corn field. There was a sign crossing the park drive that pointed out the mileage to the Huber Heights area, but the path still ended at the dormant field. So I did a little bit of "cross country" to get back to pavement. It wasn't really bad running through the grass there. On the trail back, the wind was now at my back, so I really warmed up quite nicely. I even got to the point of taking off my hat.
Back on the north side of Main Street, I decided to run the mowed path through the field. It was interesting. It was still kind of soggy, and I ended up getting some mud stuck on my shoes. It was definitely rougher terrain even though there are no hills or rocks, but it was not even. But it made for an interesting mix at the end of the run. I ended up stopping the run back on the bike path and walked the rest of the way back. It was a good easy run on a beautiful day.
